New Happenings

So since we have been in Arizona, my wife and I must have attended a dozen or more churches without a whole lot of luck. We have since been making a home at a church in Glendale. We have felt really good about what is happening there and the priorities of the church seem to line up with what we have been experiencing and wrestling with the last couple of months on a personal level. In past weeks one of the pastors has been alluding to a new direction for the Saturday evening service that we regularly attend. Needless to say I have been mildly enticed by this prospect because I feel like it is further in the direction that I am moving personally. Then this weekend the church revealed a new vision statment that read: Becoming the family of God to be a blessing to the World. WOW!! How coincidental is that, much of what I am going through relates to the process of BECOMING particularly as I feel like most of the church is far from having it all figured out (myself especially) and being a blessing to others as one of the central pieces of the identity of a Christian.

One of the statements that the pastor made about this particular service and the goals for the future is that "the Saturday night community is going to be the place where we unabashedly come to worship Christ in whatever way the Spirit leads. If that seems a bit odd for you there are three other services for you to choose from." Talk about bold and exactly what I am hoping and looking for in a faith community. More details are forthcoming this weekend so I'm sure I will be bustling about what happens then.
