Yesterday my mom and one of her friends Nancy flew in from Michigan and are spending a few days of pampering at the Camelback Inn and Spa here in Phoenix. They had pretty ambitious plans for their first day here, we picked them up at the airport just after 12:15pm local time and went over to the Camelback Inn. Rooms weren't ready for them yet so we proceeded with their other plan to hike Camelback Mountain. For those not familiar with it Camelback is one of the two most difficult hikes within the city of Phoenix and it is a good 2-3 hours round trip to conquer the beast. After spending 4 hours on a airplane I know I always feel like going for a 3 hour hike (do you sense the sarcasm?). But we went anyways. Liz and I expected that mom and Nancy would want to do the hike as far as the saddle between the two "humps" of the "camel" without doing the more difficult last 1/4 of the climb, but when the time came they were up to the challenge (partially due to ignorance :P ). Regardless, they ended up doing great and loving the views from the top and felt very accomplished in the process. To see pictures of the climb and the scenery along the way go HERE.
After the hike Mom and Nancy checked in to their rooms and we cleaned up and went to dinner at one of the restaurants at the resort. After dinner everyone looked very satisfied and very tired. Liz and I returned home and crashed shortly after while mom and Nancy were off to explore the spa and the fitness center... so typically mom, always looking for something to do even on vacation..
